I must say that I've found the QF phone staff (several of) very helpful and courteous recently..apart from misleading me slightly on the rules for waitlisting upgrades before the 'official' policy was released.

Also, freebie BC has been code 'U' for yonks (18 months or more)..it used to be 'C', not 'D' ('D' is the slightly discounted BC fare with a few strings attached). AFAIK award seats (and presumably upgrades) are taken from the 'J' pool.
