It is not worth it to me or them to use miles or stickers. The family with me is my wife's parents and our kids 12 and 13. As an EXP I have no stickers any more so I would need to buy three stickers each at a cost of $360 total. My in-laws say don't spend the money and my kids are wanting to save money as they are hoping to charter a fishing boat and swim with dolphins. They understand these are expensive trips and would gladly sit in coach and have more vacation money. So after telling you more then you need to know what is the policy/procedure for AA to fill the open seats. Before you beat me up I talked to AA EXP desk and they confirmed that there are 15 revenue seats still open and no golds requesteing upgrade.
AA leaves with open F seats quite often on international trips and I assume domestic trips too. There is no rule they be filled. It degrades the product to offer free upgrades to families- what about someone in coach who paid more than you? Shouldn't they be offered a free upgrade too? "Complimentory" (sic) upgrades aren't right in this case and if you wanted to spend miles for F, you could have given your miles given your status.
