Some addtl. news from justplanes.com, this would also be one of the first sources for pictures:

Quantas will launch a new discount single-class international airline flying to 6 Asian cities from late next year.
Australian Airlines will launch in the third quarter of 2002 between the north-eastern port of Cairns, operating nonstop return flights initially to Osaka, Nagoya, Singapore, Taipei, Hong Kong and Fukuoka.
Australian Airlines will be headquartered in Sydney, but will locate its first operational base in Cairns, launching with four Boeing 767-300 aircraft, building eventually to a fleet of 12.
It will offer connecting flights between Cairns and the Gold Coast six times a week and would eventually fly to every Australian mainland capital including Perth and Darwin.
