Kangaroo Tails for Australian Airlines

Sydney, 11 December 2001 :

Australian Airlines has chosen a flying kangaroo for its aircraft tail design and corporate identity.
Chief Executive of Australian Airlines, Denis Adams, said the kangaroo was the airline's first choice.
"The kangaroo is recognised around the world as being synonymous with Australia.
"We also wanted to maintain an association with the original Australian Airlines, which had one of the country's strongest identities, also featuring a kangaroo, and was very warmly regarded by Australians," he said.
"Australian Airlines has based its corporate identity on those strengths, but has added to the Australian flavour by using ochre as the signature colour for its aircraft and logo.
"Ochre is recognised as the colour of the heart of Australia, and carries the feeling of the Australian outdoors.
"The universal Australian icon of the kangaroo and the colour of Australia's red centre are identified with Australia both here and around the world, so they were ideal choices for Australia's new international airline."

Mr Adams said Australian Airlines had also used a range of other graphic styles and devices to reinforce Australian qualities.
"We are featuring multiple dots flowing behind the kangaroo to give a sense of dynamism. We also opted for rounded shapes and chose a flowing, almost hand-written style of typeface to emphasise Australian Airlines' warm and welcoming style. The result is a contemporary and sophisticated Australian design, which captures the friendly and relaxed personality for which Australians are famous," he said.

The Australian Airlines corporate identity was designed by Hulsbosch Communication by Design.

Does anyone know if there are any pics showing the new corporate ID? Can't seem to find anything.
