No YOU do the math. The fact is that the elite blocks on AA flights are variable by city pairs.
Look at ORD-LGA on 12/7 (AA376) for proof. Rows 7 to 13 on the MD-80 are blocked (minus a few middles on the right side). Not to mention all AA MD80s block all of rows 7 and 8 plus some in the back for airport assignment only. So it's more than the number you have cited.
You can compare that to STL-LAX (12/7 AA 531) only blocks 2 additional seats – significantly less that then the ORD-LGA example, but there are a lot fewer elites on that route.
Let’s see, is the sky still there? Yep, it’s still there.
How odd. I NEVER would have thought the seat block varied by route, and on that point I happily stand corrected. I wish AA would extend this seat block to rows 8-13 on ALL MD80 planes. (Also to note though, all airlines block additional seats usually in the back, so by that logic, their numbers are higher than what's cited too.)
Suffice to say though that this "2 seat" deal ain't working out too well in STL, but if it's broader on other flights I am definitely glad. I have run into "no seats" available at least 10 times in the past six months, and it is maddening. If I'm a victim of STL, so be it - just be glad you're not flying these routes. It ain't a lot of fun. Is your sky still there?
(PS: "boobery" is decidedly rude considering that my facts were entirely correct on the routes I cited and fly.
