Stayed at Rancho Cordova twice recently. Was assigned rooms near the end of the top floor. I too was initially bothered by the room chart on the back of the door. But I expect the larger rooms aren't that much longer, and if they have 2 double beds there's no greater amount of usable space. Room width seems to be generally identical between rooms.

In this situation, being away from the elevators is the most important consideration, and that desire was satisfied. Also, on my first stay a bag of goodies from the Sales Department was waiting in the room, presumably reflecting Diamond status. Alas this was not repeated on my second stay, since it was a one-shot deal according to the front desk.

I do like the Hyatt Place room design. I'm amazed how an Amerisuites can be transformed. The only thing missing is a spacious granite-floored shower stall in place of the hoary tub and shower.
