The Denver elite line was a disaster a few weeks ago (but ok about 10 days ago) and much slower than the regular line. I made a fuss about it and the TSA blamed the ID checkers and vice versa. The difference from before was that they only allowed the elite line feed into one X-ray line after the ID check.

They also have a strange policy of letting very few people (2 or 3 at a time) selectively use a lane with a "puffer" but they were taking people from the regular lines further away and a robotic TSA employee declined to use it to help with the growing elite line. Eventually he let 3-4 of us in. I think he tried intentionally to not to let me in but as soon as he opened the rope I was through.

I have heard that it is better to head over to the south security lines if there as back-up on the UA dominated side.
