It's been covered somewhere else but the ban on inflight smoking applies only to flights that have some Australian connection (e.g., airline is Australian, the aircraft is registered in Australia, and/or carrying passengers solely wthin Australian destinations.) Airlines with no Australian connection are not required to ban inflight smoking. http://www.dotrs.gov.au/aviation/smoking.htm
