Complete bunkum, that's what is is. By denying your own loyal customers (they don't give away Silver status in wheelie bins) the ability to choose which F seat they wish to sit in.

I have a reward flight in Z coming up with QF and without asking was assigned 1A (I was BA Silver at time of booking).
