I would call the group desk for sure, it can't hurt. With group reservations you normally get at least one free ticket (depending on size of group).

Also, in the case of irregular-ops or schedule/flight changes you pretty much are guaranteed keeping the group together with them under a single rez. With individual reservations who knows what could happen.

In my experience the group desk peole are great to work with.
