Do you have a car? There's a popular Japanese market a couple of blocks away called Mitsuwa (sp?). It's got a big market and some Japanese specialty stores with food.

If you want higher end, there are a lot of restaurants in Newport Beach. My favorites are Bandera and Roy's. They are coporate owned but there aren't too many of them around, so I don't know if you'd consider them chains.

The Ritz in Laguna Niguel also offers a fantastic Sunday brunch ($75 pp). It's about 20 minutes away.

If you are looking for walking distance restaurants, there are a few inside South Coast Plaza. There is a seafood restaurant across the street from SCP. It's called Bluewater Grill. They are pretty good. The seafood is fresh and they have a good selection. There are also a few steak houses on Anton. When you get there, you can ask the concierge for a map. There are many options in the neighborhood. If you have any specific questions, feel free to PM me.
