Much depends on the Route in question. Continental Europe to HKG Premium Class on CX is Far Far Worse than Trans Pacific on QF. It's virtually impossible until 7 days before travel, whereas there are lots of posts on here of Forum Members getting QF Pacific Premium awards seats many months in advance.
