Until the flight goes to airport control, status makes no difference whatsoever for upgrade waitlists (except for 1Ks on mileage upgrades, but that doesn't apply here). It's purely FIFO (again ignoring the PA/PB distinction since that's something you have no control over). After the flight goes to the DM list, I don't know if *G clears any better than a GM.
