Ah yes, another fond memory of the British Caledonian and BA FAs putting bags of ice behind my neck to help stem the nosebleeds I almost invariably got on the descent into Alicante.
My ears would hurt like hell on the way up and especially on the way down when I was a child, but even so, I still loved flying. And the Spanish customs officials used to allow my young cousins through so we always had someone to play with whilst we were waiting for the baggage at the carousel - gave us time to mentally strengthen ourselves before finally walking into the arrivals hall and receiving an onslaught of S3 cologne scented embraces and vibrant orange streaked kisses.
Let's face it, the more multicultural Britain gets, the more children will be travelling to visit relatives and loved ones. People don't just get on airplanes to go on mere vacation. Welcoming ethinic diversity in Britain and then taxing everyone who isn't quite “British“ enough because they want to see their elderly grandmothers, or help their kids maintain their language and a semblance of cultural identity.... oops! Didn't mean to go off on one there!
In short, I never mind when kids scream on take off and landing. Naturally, I get a bit miffed if it carries on incessantly, but that isn't so common.
I don't think I'd like to settle down in a homogenous society - kids on the plane, or lunging in lounges seems a small price to pay. - And it's usually adults who have their shoes up on seats in lounges which is my pet peeve!
