Well, this isn't German, but it's close (Austrian) and it's more of a coffee house than a pastry shop.

I'm not sure anything could compare to Lutz, but it's close to the ballpark. There are several outdoor cafes on Southport if the goal is to sit and read about the Cubs. (By the way, no more Cubbies - it's CUBS! )
