Hummm..... What I'm taking away from this is poor mannered people are really disliked in Hawaii.

I have to say, even on the mainland, it is very unlikely I will not say please & thank you. If someone lets me pass on a highway or road, I always wave thank you.

I do exactly the same in Hawaii, except I substitute mahalo & shaka or wave in thanks.
