Just did my first two rentals on Avis First. The second one hasn't posted but the first one has and under the Qualifying? it says No with the reason: "Minimum number of paid rental days not met" (it was a 19 hour rental).

I've looked in the literature and on the website and cannot see anywhere what this means. Under PS a rental was a rental regardless of duration (and I got rewarded and recognized equally when I rented for a few hours or in several cases for an entire month). In the Avis First literature it just refers to qualifying either by Rental Days or by 'Rentals'.

Does it mean qualifying for coupons only, or membership renewals? As the vast majority of my rentals are less than a day should I switch to Hertz? (or is it no better over there). If they are going to disqualify most of my rentals I will probably still requalify for First, but why bother? Surely I can get a better level of benefit from Hertz?

I'd hate to do that. I've been loyal to Avis for 9 years...
