I remember 10 years ago working on communicating some company travel guidelines, and one of them was to urge corporate travelers not to use the phone in their room. This kind of thing has been going on for quite some time, though with the cellphone proliferation it'd seem the take would have to be way down. Won't stop the shenanigans, though...only a new mentality in hotel management will.

I like the Motel 6 approach: free local calls, free 800 number calls, long distance through your own calling cards only and no way to charge anything to the room.
