I flew through JNB once without shrink-wrapping the luggage, and it was virtually empty by the time it arrived at my destination. The luggage handlers in Johannesburg are well-known for theft, I found out afterwards. The claims rep for SAA in JNB told me that it happens on every flight, and they refuse to stop, plus management won't fire them. I don't understand it.

On the last trip where I knew I would be in transit in JNB, I wrapped my bag and nobody touched it!
