Interesting. Opposite of what OP said happened to me once.
On taxi'ing to the runway, a bin popped open. It was a row away from the seated Flight Attendent. It was 3 rows away from me. She ordered me to get up and close the bin ( I have no idea why she didn't do it, since she was closer) I refused. On landing, she had the captain come back and read the riot act to me for not following her instructions. I just shut my mouth and disembarked, since explaining the situation ( and laziness of the FA ) wouldn't change anything.
Oddly... the rules as I understood it ( in the 80's) is that only Flight Crew can allow passengers to unbuckle ( when not an emergency ) and get up while taxi'ing. The flight attendent is CABIN Crew, not Flight crew.
I was once told that's one reason why the little "seat belt" lights are controlled by Flight crew.. the Cabin crew has NO idea what will happen in the next minute, in relation to stopping/going/taking off while taxi'ing.
And the Airline rules had LOADS of things to say about the situation from an insurance standpoint. ( if the captain had swerved, taken off and I had hurt myself.. I coulda made a bundle ).
