I saw a bin pop open once on final approach on a BA flight in C (J?). I unbuckled, stood, pushed it closed, sat, and re-buckled. The FA saw me, and mouthed "thank you". Didn't occur to me to ring the bell, since I was pretty sure I could get the bin closed in seconds.
