The password protecting is strictly to enhance the protection of corporate and personal information, (see paragraph 1 in blue above) also that most other companies internal employee sites require a log in procedure, something that we all know that alaskasworld did NOT require for years.
And alaskaworld still doesn't is the point.

You're being confused again.

Or are you silly enough to believe the original plan was to prompt for a username and password when a non-employee attempts to access info on the site, yet still allow access to that same info even when no password is provided
