Not necessarily. I'm EXP because I fly a number of very long international trips. I know golds who fly more segments than I do (and therefore connect in more airports than I do).
Furthemore, if you're flying international in J or F as I typically am, I can get into the lounges free, anyway with my J/F ticket, so the AC isn't as big a deal.
