You're right -- you don't get it. The post you quoted has nothing to do with and stated no position about the decision itself. The post concerns the apparent and curiously botched implementation, not the original decision.
It's pretty simple. Alaska announced that starting March 15th they were password protecting the alaskaworld website info that used to be publicly available. The implementation rolled out is laughable. I have yet to find any website content that a non-employee could get to before March 15th that they couldn't get to today.
The question was can this be attributed to intent or incompetence.
