No way on NW - they don't care - I've done it a number of times - even had it suggested one time by a CSA. If someone were to ask, you could simply say you missed the connection(after getting off and meeting a friend or some BS) and the gate agent told you you would have to buy another ticket, so you went to another airline etc etc....
