Personally I think that showing ID at the gate is useless. The GA's are busy boarding the flight and they do not seem to pay attention to what is actually on the ID....
On most of my flights,there is no one else who asks for ID until you get to gate.The kiosk does not ask for ID either.
Although the Gate agents are busy,they do match name on BP to photo ID.
