That's true, the stuff needs to be designed well to handle idiotic passengers. Probably the equipment in Y will take on a worse beating.
There should be announcements made to WBC pax that the seat controls are electronic or NW should put a handout (this sounds like a university class lecture) in the seat pocket showing up the seat is operated. I know CO has this.
