I was flying 895 on a 744 last year and before we took off, the captain announced that we would pay Anchorage a visit for refuel as a passenger had some extremely large baggages. That was my only fuel stop experience so far. Made me wonder what baggages they were.

My bf flew the same route a couple years back, had to make a stop in PEK for aircraft maintenance as one of the Y toilets were out of order. Visa wasn't an issue, no one was allowed to deboard.

One question, doesn't UA fly to PEK now? Or is it Shanghai? They shouldn't have a problem landing in China.
