In my experience, the rental income doesn't even cover the operating expenses (in a condo's case that's the mortgage, the homeowner's fees, etc.). In the past you would hope that appreciation plus the use of the condo would make it worthwhile. There are other variables like whether you have a rental pool and agent or whether you try to handle that yourself.
