"Explosive Search Dogs"

...said the notice in the Police van's windscreen outside Departures. Not ones to be petted heavily.

Anyhow, anyone know what was up with T1 this evening? Came off the BA349 into a scrum by the FCC/Immigration area, as there was a "fire alarm" and noone could go beyond into baggage reclaim. After 15 minutes a BAA employee helpfully suggested that those of us without checked luggage could go through to T2 immigration, which resulted in much shoving and pushing as a randomly distributed half of the maybe 200 people waiting all tried to be first away. (Thank God for IRIS) Couldn't get to T1 from T2 via the corridor that goes via Zone R, and there were lots of fire engines/police outside with a big cordoned off area - but T1 landside arrivals and departures were open.

The fire exit in in the Arrivals mens' was open, unmanned, and led to an airside service road. Perfect, if there's already a security alert!

Other than going to T2 as directed, could I have gone via FCC to another terminal without an onward flight?
