That's true for most US-bound flights from international airports since 8/11 of last year. Nothing special about CO or FRA here.
But with Europe adopting the 100mL/Ziplock rules on 4/17, those secondary checkpoints may cease to exist. We will find out in about 3 weeks. Many major Asian airports are also adopting, or have just adopted, the same.
