I'm fairly sure DiamondClub has posted before about allocation of these event invites*.
I seem to recall that they are choosen randomly from their list of gold card holders. I would however expect (IMO) that that list is determined by the location the member is in and possibly the interests they share. I don't think annual spend or flying patterns come into it.
