Unfortunately, she had only mentioned the insurance issue to me on the phone. I only learned of the rate thing when she got home.

However, I was finally able to call today to recify this (had been out sick and I DO mean too sick to handle this ....). SO in the FT spirit, I present the results.

The CS agent listened fully to all my concerns. She started then by looking at the Emerald Club rate for that location and found it was $51. Thinking back now, I think she may have actually looked up the upgraded car type (which the GF had paid $15 additional for). But I'm not going back now ;-)

Anyway, she agreed the $85 charge was out of line and agreed to refund the difference to $51. She also agreed to refund the difference between the liability only insurance she needed and the Total plan she was bullied into. She additionally refunded the $9.99 Roadside assistance since it was sold as "in the event the car breaks down" and not the real coverage.

Overall, about $95 was refunded. I was pleased with the agent's attitude which was completely non-confrontational. While she seemed to be careful not to criticize anything the agent did per se, she did not think any of my arguments were unreasonable and agreed to the appropriate amends. In the end my GF probably still overpaid by a bit but that's just part of learning the hard way.

FYI for the poster who seemed to think the $85 rate was appropriate "punishment" for accidentally booking under the corporate rate, the agent actually said straight out that, since the National site would automatically populate her corporate ID, it was fully understandable. In fact she questioned why she didn't just use the corp ID for her personal rental but I explained that her company policy doesn't allow that. She was suprised my GF would choose to make a point of asking it removed but I explained she likes to go by the book

Thanks for all the responses.
