10k miles sounds odd unless you're booked in Y or B. Though sometimes mistakes do happen in your favor. CP & PP can both upgrade to Sleeper in advance of departure day. (another explanation: double-check the aircraft on your travel date to make sure they haven't temporarily swapped equipment to a 767)

Not sure that I agree with the strategy of waiting until day of departure to seek upgrade for your other segment. Were me, as the trip nears I'd call daily to see if a space opens up (inventory could release one, or another PAX could cancel).
