The DL flight leaves at 6pm so u can get to it from other far east locations (PEK,PVG, TPE, HKG, MNL, BKK, NGO, KIX, ect)
Except that KE times many of its SE Asian flights as (short) redeyes so that they arrive in Korea in the early morning with sufficient time to connect to the bank of US-bound flights that starts with the ATL departure. That's certainly true of BKK, SIN, and HKG, and even the new service to REP. In fact, the transit time at ICN is shorter for KE-KE connections SE Asia-ICN-ATL, making it preferable to a KE-DL connection unless you want to spend the day skulking around Seoul (a perfectly valid diversion, of course).

I've connected from the late-night (1:45am departure) BKK flight to the ATL flight with ease, even though it's tight at just over an hour. Once I had sufficient time to dash into and out of Korea (collecting two passport stamps in the process ^), visit the Prestige lounge for a quick refresh, and make it to the gate in time for priority boarding, all despite a delayed departure from Bangkok. KE's much-appreciated op-up on the BKK-ICN flight helped make it possible.
