I was a fortunate one who grabbed a NW $0 fare ex YVR to BUH and am now starting to plan some of my time in Romania. Thanks to the Intercontinental BUH deal, the last two of my six total nights are already booked and all but unchangeable. However, the first four nights are somewhat more flexible. I am holding those four nights at the JW Marriott Bucharest right now at a decent price, but could let the reservation go in favor of having those nights elsehwere such as Brasov or Sigishoara.
So some questions: a.) can day trips be easily done from Bucharest to both, or would you spend more time on a train than in each destination? b.) I know Sigishoara's well preserved old town is on the UNESCO heritage list but is it a better choice for, say, two nights than Brasov? c.) is either centre more tourist-oriented, have better hotels, easier to get to, etc. d.) should I keep arrival night in Bucharest at the JW and head out of town the next morning? Some of the trip reports from a few travellers makes the trek from OTP to train station to get to places like Brasov an adventure and I know feeling jet-lagged and fuzzy headed my trying to do this might be lunacy.
As always, any feedback on the subject would be appreciated. I'm not travelling until August, so nothing needs to get done right away, although I would like to have hotels nailed down within the next month or so.
Thanks in advance.
