Marriott San Juan Resort & Stellaris Casino MARGINAL
Preface: In SJU for corporate meetings before boarding luxury yacht.
Status: Friend staying with me at Resort who was supposed to be put on reservation has highest status. The reservation appears in her online reservations. We confirmed this before arriving and she sent a fax. That all being said the agent and Resort were totally clueless upon arrival.
Rate: I think our corporate rate is $279 plus plus per night.
Transportation: Three of us took a taxi van from SJU to Resort. $18.50 plus tip.
Parking: Not used.
Check-in: Check-in was a joke. It took nearly 30 minutes to check-in. The Resort has a lobby bar. Right in the middle of the lobby. The band is so loud you can not even hear the agent. This is fine since they are useless. It took a "manager" to get a somewhat decent room in the Tower. As stated my friends status was not showing so we had to fend for ourselves in getting a "upgrade" last minute. The whole process was worthless even with all the work we did ahead of time.
Perks: A marginal upgrade to a side room in the tower facing east.
Lounge: The Lounge is advertised online in pictures but is under renovation. So no Lounge. Another disappointment in this marginal property.
Room: You enter onto carpet. The bathroom is to the right. This is followed by the king bed, comfy chair and ottoman, a slider with step out balconey with two chairs and a table, desk, entertainment center with flat screen LCD tv and closet. A nice comfortable renovated room. So far I've found three screws on the carpet and one of the draws is full of parts / electronics used in the renovation. I have a couple bumper pads sitting in the closet which fell off of something. The bathroom has a cover plate which was probably something at one time. The doors are very heavy and you can constantly hear them shutting in the small hall leading to the room.
Bathroom: The bathroom has a tile floor with a single basin. Pop out shower rod with standard amenities. A good size.
Internet: The internet service is wireless in the room. Think $10 per day. It does not look like it is on 24 hour just noon to noon. I've had to "sign up" for it numerous times. It kicks you back to the log-in page at will which makes work difficult. I am typing as fast as possible for this report and did not do one earlier because of this problem. It is also faster early morning.
Gym: Not been yet.
Spa: Not used.
Eating venue: We had breakfast at La Vista yesterday morning. It was very slow. A couple of women sat down next to us a headed directly towards the crowded buffet. We now know why. We served ourselves juice, coffee, got our own salt and so forth. I finally complained to the manager who halved our bill. So offered to comp the whole thing but I told her half would be fine.
Local markets: There is a Walgreens nearby.
Local area: Not much around here. Beach was nice.
Negatives: I've not heard one positive comment about the Resort. The buffest yesterday for our group event was ok. People have reported marginal rooms, noise and checking into a room where the trash bin was full.
Closing: I have not reason to return to SJU. I've found this Resort marginal. They have no idea what service is about. The facilities are aged. The goal is to get a Tower renovated room.
