Do front desk agents get commissions on upsells?

I just checked into the Grand Hyatt Taipei, using FFN for 4 nights. As a Diamond, I was upgraded to the Grand Club (much appreciated) and was given the opportunity to upgrade to a 'larger room' for $1500 NT ($46 US) per night. Since I am alone, and this is a personal trip on my own $, I declined, and the room I have is quite nice, and plenty big for one person. (If I had been traveling with my partner, I would've jumped at the chance, since we tend to get all over each other when sharing a hotel room). But it got me thinking: do the front desk agents get a commission when they upsell you to a more expensive room? Or was he just being nice in offering me the chance to do so?
