I do not agree with your statement. 2 days ago I purchased 2 M tickets and upgraded into BKK for 50k miles. Three weeks notice and they were available, yes I had to delay the return by 1 day to get 2 seats. No the routing was not out of DTW or MSP but from a left coast city via SEA.

Just keep looking and the upgrade angels may eventually come through.
