Set all of those concerns aside, in Cairo you'll be absolutely fine. However, given the baksheesh culture, you'll be taken for a mug unless you have your wits about you. A first arrival in CAI can be somewhat overwhelming for the uninitiated, not least depending on your time of arrival, the length of time in can take to get through immigration controls.

The suggestion already made of a meet+greet service (thrown in, on request, by some of the higher end hotels, at a cost for others) can make sense. The person meeting you will miraculously find a way of short-circuiting lines, both for the visa stamp and at the immigration booth. Really worth considering, especially if you'll arrive tired and disoriented after your flight.

Enjoy Cairo, it's a wonderfully-exciting city (one of my favourites, if that wasn't already obvious). Just try not to get taken for a mug, which just about every disoriented visitor does (at least first time round).
