Can you go online and redeem the award tix to Japan? If so, why not just gift and ticket the miles to "someone else"? This someone else happens to have your full legal name. So the names on the ticket and legal document (ID, passport..etc) will definitely match upon check-in.
Since your main goal is to get the award tix and as a result, clear out your nicknamed MP account, this might work. If you want to earn miles in the future, just open a new MP account. But this time, use your complete legal name. I think the Refer-A-Friend promo is still going on, so I can even refer you for both of us can get bonuses from your NEW MP account.
