Another interesting name is Braathens S.A.F.E., the Norwegian domestic carrier.

Another carrier that has an unusual name is Pluna, the Uruguayan flag carrier.
Actually Lloyd Aereo Boliviano got its name from its original investors who were German shipping company Norddeutscher Lloyd, strong in the 1920s (when LAB was formed) on the Europe to South America run. The German holiday charter airline Hapag Lloyd comes from the same origin and is thus a (very) distant cousin.

Braathens SAFE is an abbreviation of Braathens South America & Far East. They have a comparable background starting as an offshoot of their namesake international shipping company. In the 1940s immediately after WW2 they did indeed operate from Oslo to South America and the Far East with DC4 aircraft. When the Scandinavian airline SAS was formed these routes were taken from them and Braathens were only allowed to run domestic routes within Norway for many years. They were hacked about this and retained their SAFE suffix for another 50 years. In the last few years they were taken over by SAS.
