Have you considered visiting Northern Chile? I enjoyed Santiago and points south, however, in the far north, I found Iquique and the Atacama desert to be wonderful places to visit. We have been to Chile a few times and really loved it - we'll definately go back again.
I have been to the (grande) north 3 times and the (chico) north 3 or 4 times, including Arica and up to Parque nacional Lauca, to Iquique and over to Pica, and to La Serena and the Valle de Elqui, and have stayed in Cochiguaz a couple of times. I highly recommend the north (and the south, too
