I have found there are some countries where Amex is rarely taken outside of chain hotels and central shopping districts, etc. I noticed it most recently in France, at just about every restaurant or bar I went to that wasn't in Paris. Excellent point. While I was not always on central business districts, I did primarily travel in major cities on these trips. I would expect that the behaviors and acceptances would change once larger cities were left behind. So, I guess we all agree that we need both
