Who said the leased planes would not be 787?
By the way, the 787 has not flown yet. the A380 was a great idea before it flew it's first flight as well. Who knows how "cutting edge" the 787 will be once ready for market.

G-d knows much of Europe sees Israel as the “world’s number one threat.” Boeing wouldn't do that, but with massive mismanagement at Airbus I wouldn't be surprised.
Are A330s military planes? - why would Airbus as a company hold parts for a customer, wherever the customer is from. much of Europe sees Israel as the “world’s number one threat.” ? - you mean the people, not the governments. Leave politics aside, El Al is private now and the politics of American made vs Europe made is not relevany anymore.

IMHO, CO 767 with the 777 interior are superior to the 777 because it's a modern while more intimate (less 2 middle seats). The TLV route is the most profitable route for CO and hence they use their biggest plane. It's also questionable whether any of their 767s can make the TLV flight year round non-stop.
