If you do end up on UA.. not all flights between NYC & IAD are on UX. There are 2 flights a day from LGA to IAD that are mainline including one that leaves at 7:15pm on a 757 that is timed nicely to connect to the later flight to LHR. So you could go F class on that flight if your'e on a C award ticket.
