The hotel itself wasn't anything I'd rant or rave about. Pretty much the same "mixed bag" experiences that others have had. The room I was given was an "average" as far as Westins go (now, yeah, that 'average' itself is a Westin-quality grade above a lot of other chains). The staff were hit & miss as far as either really friendly or really rude. You definitely get a sense that there was a time gone by when this hotel was THE place to be, with traces of its history here & there.

The location is excellent. Close access to several public transportation venues, including the cable car. Heck, I grew up in the Bay Area & it was still kinda' cool to just jump on it right outside my door. In fact, considering BART access to OAK and SFO, if my business was only in the city itself, I might bag the rental car altogether & save on the parking $$$. Union Square right outside the door was a relaxing place to park myself & my laptop on a sunny spring afternoon.
