Just a comment why don't you send it Fed Ex insured? It is amazing how people will haul anything with them to save a buck.</font>
Some things are too important to trust to FedEx or even (as gentle as they are) the baggage handlers. You can insure against the value of the item destryoed, however all contracts of carriage disclaim "consequential" or "indirect" damages.
Suppose RC's sign cost $100, and sucessful delivery and installation of the sign generated RC $10,000 in revenue for his company. If FedEx (or NWA) destroyed the sign, FedEx writes RC a check for $100.
Now if RC's customer, shocked and horrified by the sight of the destroyed sign, decides that she would rather do business with somebody else, FedEx writes RC a check for $100.
I do not know if RC is pinching pennies here or if the sign is truly "mission critical". When I travel to the client, I usually have everything I need to complete the deal in my carry on bag, sometimes at the expense of clothing. (and I check it all on the way home as not to deal with it).
I know that NWA will reimburse me for the inconvenience of a lost bag, but they will not reimburse me for the loss of good will I will suffer for not being able to do my job timely.
