I don't know what you mean by "last generation" but both CI and KE have very good F class products with pod type lie flat beds and AVOD. Both airlines have progressed quite far over the last 5 years. Their F products are quite competitive with other 1st class asian carriers. Don't knock it until you've tried it.
1. I'll never have the opportunity to try KE's first class, as they don't make first class available for award travel.
2. China Airlines First Class is only available on their 747s. The configuration is 2x2, which is last-generation. Take a look at how UA, AA, BA, AF, SQ, TG, VS, etc. configure their cabins. Typically few, if any "double" seats, and suite-like seats, as opposed to the old-generation regular seats with deeper recline.
