You don't "run" this upgrade, it just happens. I LOVE MY MAC.
I am a heavy Mac user and when this upgrade "just happened" it failed halfway through and killed my MBP. I was able to get to boot but the install had messed up some permissions beyond repair. This forced me to backup everything using Carbon Copy Cloner and do a new install.
Read the Apple Discussions on this upgrade, it sounds like it is a scourge, especially for those folks on the Intel architecture.
